Brenda Lee's classic 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree' finally topped the charts

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Michel Martin. You can't get it out of your head, and now it's finally topped the charts. We're talking about Brenda Lee's classic "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "ROCKIN' AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE")

BRENDA LEE: (Singing) ...At the Christmas party hop.

MARTIN: Lee recorded the song in 1958, but it topped Billboard's Hot 100 for the first time ever thanks to a jolly new video starring Lee. And at 78, Lee is now the oldest person ever to top the Billboard charts for a song she recorded when she was 13. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
