Musicians From Our Small State Perform at Their Tiny Desks

There were over 20 entrants in all from the Nutmeg State.

The winner of NPR Music's 2016 Tiny Desk Contest, Gaelynn Lea, produced a "serpentine, earworm melody" with "tremendous heartache in her poetry," according to judge Robin Hilton.

Although Gaelynn is not in WNPR's listening audience (she's from Duluth, Minnesota), plenty of entries from Connecticut were submitted.

Bob Boilen, host of NPR's All Songs Considered, told WNPR's Where We Live that even though they do pick a winner, one of his favorite parts of the contest is how it connects people.

"Artists will get together; they'll find a space that maybe they never went to before," Boilen said. "They'll work on a project together; they'll find some videographer they've never known -- and all of a sudden, you've formed this little tiny community of six, eight, 12 people that would not have happened."

WNPR collected submissions from Connecticut to feature on this page.
