War and poverty displace millions of people around the world.
This hour, we hear from two Connecticut artists who have personal experience with the global refugee and migrant crisis.
We talk with Mohamad Hafez, a Syrian-born architect living in New Haven. He creates miniature models of Syrian cityscapes that now reflect the civil war’s destruction of his native land.
We also hear from a Simsbury poet about her decision to travel to Jordan -- twice -- to teach poetry and art to Syrian refugee children.
Plus, how does the scale of the current refugee crisis compare with other periods of mass migration and what does the future hold? Ambassador William Lacy Swing will join us. He leads the International Organization for Migration.
GUESTS:
- Mohamad Hafez - Syrian artist, architect, and New Haven resident
- Melissa Croghan - Poet, artist, author, and Simsbury resident
