600 Layoffs at Cablevision in Shelton and Stratford

The new owner of New York cable operator Cablevision plans to lay off 600 workers in Connecticut as it closes a call center in Shelton and an office in Stratford. 

Officials with European telecommunications and cable company Altice disclosed the layoff and closure plans to employees Tuesday, citing technology improvements and reduced customer call volume.

Hundreds of other employees will remain in the state, including workers at walk-in sites and technical staff. The Altice-owned News 12 TV station in Norwalk is not affected.

The layoffs will take effect in November. Workers are being encouraged to apply for other Altice jobs in New York and New Jersey.

Netherlands-based Altice bought Cablevision in June for $17.7 billion. It runs the Optimum internet, TV and phone services in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
