Students Claim ECSU Didn't Handle Sexual Assault Cases Appropriately

Eastern Connecticut State University

Eastern Connecticut State University has hired an independent firm to review the way it handles Title IX claims. Risk management firm TNG Consulting will look into claims by several students that the school has mishandled cases of rape and sexual assault on campus.

In 2018, an ECSU student who felt campus officials mishandled her rape allegation anonymously started a Rape Survivor Support Instagram page and blog so that she and others could share their stories.

It has gained close to 7,000 followers and includes comments from students who said they felt the university did not respond sensitively or appropriately.

In a statement to students in late March, university President Elsa Nunez said that in light of recent social media posts, the university would fully investigate the way it handles sexual assault cases.

Nunez said the school intends to cooperate and “carefully consider their findings and recommendations to help us examine and evolve our programs.”
