The problem with invasive species is, of course, that they compete for resources with local species, and sometime they're a lot better at it. and sometimes they just incidentally wipe something out.
There's a kind of invasive species called "The Oyster Thief" because it attaches itself to oysters and causes them to float out with the tide.
They're a real headache for shellfishers. Invasive species from purple loosestrife to sea squirts to wild pigs are all over the nation, and they're causing a ton of trouble, but they're also stirring up solutions, some of them ingenious and some a little goofy. Trying to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes, river management people have put up seriously electrified barriers on the Mississippi and serious discussed separating te river from the Great Lakes. Today, you might hear about some subtler approaches.
