John Dankosky Named Executive Editor of The New England News Collaborative

April 18, 2016

Award-Winning WNPR Journalist To Lead 8-State Public Media Partnership

HARTFORD, Conn. (April 18, 2016) – Connecticut Public has announced that John Dankosky will lead the New England News Collaborative (NENC) as its Executive Editor. NENC is a regional news collaborative that includes eight public media stations in New England, including WNPR. The NENC will produce multimedia coverage focusing on the New England region’s energy usage, climate, transportation, infrastructure, and its people and immigration issues. The NENC is funded by a Regional Journalism grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Jerry Franklin, President and CEO of Connecticut Public Broadcasting commented, “We are thrilled to support the great work of the New England News Collaborative and so pleased that John is leading this effort. This is exactly the kind of in-depth, unbiased reporting about our state and our region that our audiences expect from CPBN. This expanded reporting initiative is also an important reflection of our strategic plan, which calls for us to bravely explore territory in ways no one else can, and to surface all sides of the issues that affect our state and our region.”

In his new role, Dankosky will oversee reporting from all eight news bureaus, including Connecticut Public/WNPR, WBUR Boston, Maine Public Broadcasting Network, New Hampshire Public Radio, Vermont Public Radio, New England Public Radio, Rhode Island Public Radio, and WSHU Public Radio. Under his direction, the partnership will produce reporting projects for WNPR and its partner stations, and for national programs including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Here & Now. Previously, Dankosky served as Vice President of News at CPBN/WNPR and as host of the popular radio talk show Where We Live. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented journalists in the country, and to build an organization that brings specific reporting focus to the shared issues and interests of our region,” said Dankosky, “The states that make up New England region share many challenges and opportunities, and they are undergoing rapid changes. Our vision is to become the most trusted and knowledgeable source for New England reporting.  Our listeners will hear stories generated by the New England News Collaborative regularly on WNPR, as well as on Where We Live, and across public media stations throughout New England.”

Dankosky will transition to his new role as Executive Editor of the New England News Collaborative effective May 2. He will continue to appear on WNPR’s weekly news roundtable The Wheelhouse with Colin McEnroe on WNPR on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  In addition, Dankosky will launch and host a new radio and podcast program focused on New England issues, scheduled to debut this summer on WNPR.

Replacing Dankosky as host of Where We Live will be Lucy Nalpathanchil, a reporter and host for mid-day programming on WNPR including Here and Now.
