Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch Drops Out of Mayoral Race, Endorses Mary-Jane Foster

Two-term Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch announced Tuesday he is dropping his bid for re-election. Finch said he will back his former rival candidate, Mary-Jane Foster.

Finch's announcement follows a failed effort by the hastily-created Job Creation Party to get him on the November ballot. The minor party missed a deadline to officially endorse Finch as its candidate.

Finch lost a three-way Democratic primary to convicted felon and former Mayor Joe Ganim by about 400 votes.

WNPR's Ray Hardman spoke to Brian Lockhart of The Connecticut Post, who was at Finch's announcement Tuesday afternoon. Listen below:

Earlier on Tuesday, Governor Dannel Malloy said he hasn't made any decisions about which candidate to endorse for Bridgeport mayor in November.

Malloy said he hasn't focused on the situation, but told reporters that at some point, "I may get more focused or I may not."
