Twenty-two people have been killed in shootings in New Haven this year. Three of those deaths happened in the last week. And this year’s death count of 22 is already higher than the 20 killings from all of last year in the city.

An official memorial to the victims of the 9/11 attacks was created at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport in 2002. Now it’s a yearly tradition for families and loved ones of those lost in the attacks to gather at the memorial. On Thursday night, family members, first responders and Connecticut leaders gathered and laid white roses on the memorial and read the names of Connecticut’s lost.

Students in all grades of all Connecticut schools are required to wear masks as they go back to school. But a small group of parents and kids across the state is pushing back on the mandate.

A sick Beluga whale at Mystic Aquarium is now in stable condition. The young female Beluga was critically ill last week. A Facebook post from the aquarium Monday night said the staff was not yet optimistic and will continue to provide 24 hour care.

A young beluga whale is experiencing health issues at Mystic Aquarium. She doesn’t have a name yet and is estimated to be 6 years old, considered a juvenile. But this whale has already had the journey of a lifetime.

Thursday’s job data showed Connecticut’s economy is continuing to recover jobs, but the state still has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. In the manufacturing sector, there are more job openings than qualified workers.
